She Asked Me to Go Get the Letters
How My Sister's Last Wish Changed Everything
When my sister Kristina startled awake in hospice and told me to go get the letters, I did not know it would change everything. At thirty-five, she had been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. She had planned to write milestone letters to her daughter, Kaitlyn, letters meant to be given to her for moments Kristina would miss. When I found the letters blank, my heart sank. She was too weak to write, so I did the only thing I could think to do. I took out my phone and recorded her right then.
We captured two videos before she fell asleep. During the third recording, she no longer had the energy to form her words clearly. Days later, on Christmas Eve, Kristina took her last breath with my head beside hers.
After her Celebration of Life, I played the videos for my niece. Their dog, Tiki, spun her head around the moment she heard Kristina's voice, searching the room to find her. My niece and I broke down crying. In that moment, I understood something I have carried into every session since: hearing someone's voice again is one of the most powerful gifts a family can be given.
That is where the idea to document life stories began.
Why I Created These Legacy Experiences
I believe every family deserves the chance to hear a voice, see an expression, and hold onto a story while it is still being lived. Legacy Sessions exist because Kristina did not get the chance to write the letters she intended to write, because my sisters and I had not been photographed professionally together in over thirty years, and because I wanted my family, and yours, to have more than a single, limited memory to hold onto.
This work is for Kristina, and it is for you, and for all the people you love most.

Meet Zoe
I am Zoe Martin, a legacy portrait photographer and family history film artist based in McKinney, Texas, proudly serving families from Dallas-Fort Worth and worldwide.
As the firstborn of six, listening closely comes naturally to me. I have built my work around it. My background includes serving families through Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, photographing them in some of their most fragile moments of loss. Losing Kristina changed how I use my camera. It is no longer only about capturing images. It is about preserving meaning for families who want something more than pictures.
When I am not behind the lens, you will find me with my husband, Frank, and our three grown children, appreciating simple moments: board games, drives with the windows down, and the memories that make life grand.
It would be my honor to document your story for the generations who will come after you.

A Legacy Experience is built around you from the first conversation. It begins with a private consultation where we determine which experience fits your family or your vision as a founder. From there, we design everything together: the location, the medium, the size of your custom portrait piece. If filming is part of your experience, we connect with everyone being recorded beforehand so no one is meeting a camera cold.
On session day, our professional hair and makeup artist team meets us on location so everyone looks and feels like themselves. After your session, printed portraits are installed by our team. Your image files are securely archived through your choice of Forever or Keep It Saved.
It is the level of care that makes it different.

This work is for the family who understands that children grow up in the blink of an eye. There is only so much time to document who they are before they graduate and begin a life of their own.
It is also for the founder who built something with intention and purpose. Whether you started from scratch or inherited what you lead, the next generation who takes it on deserves to know the history and hear how the values that made it successful were lived, not just listed.

Not at all. You are welcome to share key moments you would like to make sure we cover, but nothing needs to be scripted or rehearsed. During your private consultation, we will map out your story path together. Your job is simply to show up and be yourself.
