Yesterday was a good day for the annual Bags Boots and Bingo fundraiser for The Martin House. If you're involved in a nonprofit, you know how the one(s) you choose to support tug at your heartstrings. The Martin House is my absolute favorite local charity. Don't get me wrong, I do blog and support others, but The Martin House is the one that I hold dear to my heart.
Throughout the games, Harlen took time to read off statistics from the counties that The Martin House serves. Children are not the only ones who benefit from the services they offer, adults sometimes need counseling as well. He also read off interesting stats about Bingo, including the largest game ever played. There were 70,000 players after they turned away 10,000. Can you guess what state that was in?
Many businesses both in Harrison and Gregg Counties took part in donating prizes, raffle gifts and providing tables for their employees. You can see from the images, there were a lot of winners yesterday. The purses and boots were all fabulous.
Humorous things sometimes happen when games are being played. The most memorable was the straight line with four corners game. At least four people called "BINGO", but none of them actually had it. That was a first. The last game played had three different correct cards, so there was a drawing from the three for the final prize.
People of all ages attended. I enjoyed seeing the families that played together. I'm a total fan of family game times. I grew up playing all kinds of games with my family. I think it's a good way to make memories with everyone.
If you're unfamiliar with The Martin House you can learn more about them here. They're a Children's Advocacy Center whose mission is to ensure that every child who is a victim of abuse and comes to our center has an opportunity to be heard, feel protected, and receive services that are vital to his or her continued safety and future wellbeing. When you support a fundraiser like this, you are offering support to these local families. I thank you.
Whether you are a volunteer for a nonprofit currently or are looking for a place to serve, I highly encourage you to apply through this link. It only takes a few minutes. I'm a volunteer for them and I can tell you that everything you do for them is a rewarding experience. Be sure to check out the Big Bass Bonanza and the Micky Melton Golf Tournament fundraiser posts that I wrote about earlier this year. They are held annually. We could definitely use your help with events like these if nothing else.
Do you know someone in these images? Be sure to let them know that they can come see themselves here.
