Before moving to Longview I connected with a group of photographers in east Texas through Lindsay Steele. If she hadn't have read my Facebook message I don't know what I would have done. Thank you, Lindsay! I'm so glad that she understood my desire to be part of a photography community. Several of us are very active offering requested advice, suggestions, and even assistance when needed. we usually meet once a month at a restaurant to catch up on one another's happenings. It's quite fun and I enjoy it.
Through the group I've been able to assist Ashley Hill with a twin newborn session. It was my first assist after the move. My west Texas clients know how much I enjoy cuddling the babies. They smell so sweet and their features are so tiny. I was grateful that Ashley recommended me to the rest of the group telling them that I knew what she needed before she did. Thanks, Ashley! I knew you were genuine when we messaged one another.
I was able to ride with Lindsay and Ashley to my first meet up in April, so I got to hear about their Iceland photography adventure in stereo. Thank you both for allowing me to tag along.
Shortly after that I was a second for a wedding with Ashley who then referred me to Cristi Hoyt. Cristi was so laid back with me. Her and Ashley were both very easy to work with! I'd be happy to work with either of them anytime. Thanks Cristi for trusting Ashley.
Our latest meet up was hosted by Lisa Gallant at her studio. We did a Headshot Swap. It's kind of nice being a photographer when you have other photographers that need images. My kids joke all the time that I would be willing to trade photography for almost anything. I love what I do.
Lisa has a huge space because she's converted an entire house into her studio. It was neat to see all the work her and her family have put into it. Her and I have similar color pallets. Soft blues are so calming. Thanks, Lisa for opening up your space for all of us!
Jenn Floyd, Farrah Voss, and Lily Diane all participated too. When four grown ladies get together, there's sure to be fun. Some hammed it up and then people like me tried really hard not to furrow our brow. It is such a struggle for me to be comfortable in front of the lens. I'm totally in my element when I'm behind it, but in front, I feel fear and dread for some reason.
I know I'm not alone when it comes to those feelings about being photographed. If you're like me, I get you! As a matter of fact, before you ever get in front of my camera for your first image, I'll have taken the time to get to know you through a consultation and more conversation the day of. I never want anyone to feel uncomfortable when they're with me. I'm such a people pleaser. It kills me to know I've hurt someone's feelings. I try to go out of my way to make everyone I meet enjoy my company. It starts with a smile and goes from there.
All that to say, if you want to work with someone who understands that you're not a model and maybe you aren't even fond of the images you've had taken of you in the past. That's me! I feel your pain and I hope that you walk away from our session feeling confident that we captured the real you. Images that you'll be proud to post to your social media profiles and/or website. It's a joy for me to meet new people, so let's get together!
Soon I hope,
Zoe
