Promotional Videos are something I started offering a couple of years after starting my own photography studio here. While in Midland, Texas working at Studio 1401, the owner hired someone to make a promotional video for the team. There was a model who had a local Bridal boutique fit her with the perfect dress. Each of the team knew this day was on the books, so we all came in looking sharp. The videographer was there for some time walking around the 3,000 square foot area showcasing each of the rooms where we did sessions, stored props, did consultations, the presentation room as well as the editing office and custom frame area. He taped us speaking about what it looks like to work with us and what we enjoyed about working with our clients.
A few weeks went by and we hadn't heard from the videographer. When we did hear back, he informed us that none of the audio was usable. The entire video had to be scrapped. It was a big letdown.
Knowing what that looked like, I wanted to make sure I was ready to provide exceptional service to clients who wanted to hire me for their production needs. I took courses, practiced, purchased equipment and subscriptions, and decided to charge what these videos are worth, which brings me back to the situation in Midland. I can't say for sure, because it's been more than 4 years ago, but I believe the person who recorded the promotional video for us, wasn't as skilled as he claimed to be. You know the old adage, "you get what you pay for." Sometimes it is what it is.
There are a lot of components that go into the production of a video. The equipment costs in the thousands as does the education and time involved in learning. Then there are the editing software and background music subscriptions. Depending on how experienced the videographer is, you could pay anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000. There isn't a one size fits all price. When I learn the details of your expected outcome then I can give you a better answer to the question,
"How much do videographers charge for promotional videos?"
While you may be thinking of a promotional video as what you need, you likely need some other videos as well. A "welcome" or "hello" video done professionally, goes a long way in an email signature. As does putting client testimonials on your website and social media. There's also the option to show each of your team members interacting with your customers and/or with the team. And now that algorithms are boosting video productions, it's a great time to get ahead of your competition.
