A few weeks before we moved here, it had rained for almost the entire month. Jason Stitt, a fellow photographer from New Zealand, says it may be greener in Longview than it is there. He was probably thinking of Midland, Texas when he thought "Texas." Nonetheless, there is definitely a lot of beautiful green grass, trees, and flowers galore here. It has been helped by all the rain.
Friday I had decided to photograph downtown. If you were there around lunch time and wondered why a photographer would stand in the middle of the road, in the rain, for several minutes, you should probably watch the live video here: https://www.facebook.com/zoemartinphotographytx/. Unfortunately, by the time the UPS truck finished his deliveries, the rain came on strong. So glad I was able to snag some of these images of the clock and the flags before that happened.
There will be other days. There will also be sunny days. But, I have to tell you, I really like the image of the clock with the storm clouds behind it! That was one of the things that my photography instructor in Kansas did to help me learn. He taught me to see things differently. I don't know how many times I've gotten on the ground, sometimes on my belly, sometimes just sitting there to capture an image. (I used to do a lot of newborn sessions) Then there's the weddings where I would squat down to capture feet - I always liked to get the bottom of the bride's dress falling over the groom's shoes. But, more than squatting or sitting, I was usually standing on something to get a different angle. And so it is with this image.
Though I wished I could get myself up higher than I was, the best I could do was to stand on top of a bench that sits across from the clock. When I see that first image of the clock alone, for some reason I think of the 2nd star to the right and straight on till morning. Which makes me realize that I haven't been very engaging in my posts. It seems that I've been telling you all about what's going on in my world without asking you very much about yours. Do any of these images stand out to you? Tell me why.
Blessings!
Zoe
