Have you heard of Heartisan's Marketplace. Y'ALL! I had lots of time on my hands when we first moved to Longview. We were literally in a hotel for almost two weeks before we were able to sign on our house. In that time, I made sure to read all the local magazines I could get my hands on. In one of those magazines I read a little something about this little gem on the corner of High and Methvyn.
Awhile back I was downtown and knew from the outside, this was some place I wanted to step into. When I walked in the door I had an option to step right or left. The store was on the right, but there was a sweet volunteer named Cindy sitting at a sewing machine in a room on the left. She greeted me and asked if I'd ever been in before. That was the beginning of my relationship with the store. I walked out with a gift for a baby shower and a new container of hand made lip balm that day.
There is room after room of goodies to look at, try on, and pick up. Obviously, I am tickled pink with all the items one can find there. While these seem like a good amount of images, I took well over one hundred more. I'll probably pace out the rooms on different social media outlets another day.
The store is a nonprofit that opened in 2014. Their mission is to provide a customized job-training program to unemployed/underemployed women living in the local community. Profits generated from the the sale of the products from the store and community donations provide the training and employment opportunities for program participants. Women are referred into the Heartisans' job training program from other community non-profits, churches, social groups and the community at large.
So, while you may be going in just to shop, know that it's for a good cause.
If you'd like to be a bigger part, contact them to volunteer. Especially if you're crafty. There is a kitchen for the home made soaps, lotions and potions, a sewing room for all kinds of good things, an embroidery area, vinyl decals, a nook for crocheting, and then there's the manning of the register. Not only that, but if you volunteer on a regular basis, you'll get to know the other regulars. Consider it a bonus.
Shop from your device and see what they have to offer.
