What I wanted to tell you about my desk isn't really what I have in or on it. I wanted to brag about the desk itself. This lovely beach inspired desk didn't come into my house this way.
Since my children are homeschooled, it seemed they all needed a desk. In our house in Midland, we had a room just for school. All three of their desks and mine were in that space.
Being that I am a penny pincher, I scoured Craigslist in search of four desks that would fit there. My gem was a large, bumblebee yellow, heavy, solid wood desk. When I originally contacted the seller about it, she wanted fifty dollars, which I thought was reasonable. I waited to think it over and when I reached out again, she said, “If you come pick it up, you can have it.” Done!
My husband was not pleased with such a large and ugly colored desk. I lived with it for two years, all the learning ways to scrape the paint off, sand, prime, and make the desk beautiful again from Pinterest.
Enters: Rethunk Junk by Laura paints. Let me tell you...I found a YouTube video of her painting by accident and my life hasn't been the same. My kitchen cabinets looked bad and needed some love. The thing about her paints is they require No sanding and No priming. (Sounds unheard of, right?!) Well, I took on the challenge and painted my entire kitchen by myself; a whole other story. Since I tackled that huge task, I knew the bumblebee was going to be a piece of cake.
It was! Now, everybody, including My Sweet Baboo, likes it. Since one of my favorite places is the beach, this makes me think of it every time I see it. The main paint color is appropriately named Seaside. Isn't it beautiful?!
Bonus: The Rethunk Junk by Laura Q & A community is an overwhelming support group. When I bought the bumblebee, it was missing a handle. It turns out one of the other users had removed hers from the same style of desk and mailed one to me!
Until next time,
Zoe
