Before we arrived in Longview, we had originally thought we'd be moving to Shreveport. I began researching local charities that I could be a part of. Children in need always tug at my heart strings. So, it's no wonder that I would choose a place that helped young people. Not long after I started looking for a place to apply, we found out that Longview was a better fit for our family. I started a new search. The Martin House fit the desire I had to help the community.
After reaching out to Roxanne and connecting with Kimberly, we agreed that I should put in a volunteer application. Y'all, I don't have a lot of free time. Volunteering can be on a very limited basis if it needs to be. I want to send out a call for help. The Martin House is a CAC, a child's advocacy center. It's similar to CASA in that regard. You have the opportunity to make a difference in a child's life. Whether you can come sit with them in the seating area and play a game together or read a book, that wouldn't take long. There's also fundraising events where volunteers can help with set up, stuffing goody bags, or manning the booth space. These are just a few of the ways you can help. It only takes a few minutes to request an application here.
One way I've helped since being accepted was to fill bags for the Mickey Melton Golf Tournament attendees. There were so many sponsors for this event. It was great to see how many people supported by participating as well! I was also the on-site photographer the day of. Recently, I photographed the staff and The Martin House itself. The ladies who work there have a heart for children, just like I do. I was happy to be able to update their images for them.
There's so much more I could say, but I would do it a disservice. Instead, I'm going to direct you to their website where you can learn more about it here.
I'll keep you up to date on upcoming events they host so maybe you can assist or come be a part of a fundraiser, on my Facebook page.
One last thing, if you or someone you know needs to speak out, but is afraid to do so, let me encourage you. Tell someone. If that someone doesn't make bad things stop, tell someone else. Sometimes good people do bad things. That doesn't mean you have to be affected by the bad they do. No one has the right to hurt you. The link to The Martin House again is here.
Maybe you already volunteer somewhere, good for you! I'd like to hear what you do whether it's locally or internationally. People helping others; that makes my heart happy. Who doesn't like to connect to like-minded people? Comment below.
Blessings,
Zoe
