There was a time when Chick Fil A offered the most delectable side dish that ever lived on a side menu. When I was younger, there were not many vegetables that I requested. Carrot raisin salad was the one thing that I can honestly look back on as comfort food. I didn't know it, but I believe that the salad is a southern thing. If you've never tried it, you missed out! The flavors melded together into sweet tasty happiness in my mouth.
My children grew up eating it. The youngest boy ate more than I did sometimes. He and I were the biggest fans. Not that long ago they took it off the menu. I was shocked. Could the sales have dropped? (I thought I was supporting the nation with the purchases I made.) What rational reasoning could there have been to remove such a wonderful item from Chick Fil A?
While I may never know the reason, I am fond of making my voice heard. Last year I went to the fan page and let them know that I wanted to start a petition to bring back the staple side item that I grew up eating. If you're a fan of Chick Fil A, then you know that they do everything with a smile. It's always their pleasure to make things happen for you. This petition request didn't fall on deaf ears. No, it's not going to go back on the menu anytime soon, but they gave me the next best thing....THE recipe!
Y'all! I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I tasted it again. All the gleeful childhood memories of eating there with my Mom when I was younger came flooding back. When I was younger, she'd share hers with me. No more! I can make an entire bowl and eat it all to myself if I so choose. It's good to be Mom.
I'm not totally selfish. I do share with my youngest. Sometimes.
Since I'm dabbling in food photography, I thought I'd share an image with you on my blog. Doesn't it make you want to grab the fork?! I hurried to photograph it because my belly was calling for it the entire time I was shooting. It is one of my very favorite foods on the planet. Thanks, Chick Fil A for sharing this with me. It will be proudly passed on from generation to generation at our house. If you'd like to snag it for yourself, here's the link.
The lovely blue bowl it's served in also makes me smile when I see it. I couldn't pass it up. The combination of orange and blue are so pleasing. A white bowl would have been too bland. But the blue makes the carrots, raisins, and pineapples stand out nicely. I'm very happy with the images I took. This isn't the only one. I have a week's worth on Instagram. If you didn't know, I post to IG pretty often. You can find me @zoe_martin_photography. Be sure to leave a comment on one of the carrot raisin salad images if you hop over. I'd like to know which one is your favorite.
Do you have a favorite childhood recipe? What is it?
Blessings,
Zoe
