Still trying to decide what I'm supposed to post to the blog, IG, and Facebook. It's important to me that I don't repost the same information on all platforms. For one, I've got different followers on each and for two, if I were to post identical things, why would I have the same people follow me on different platforms? Something to consider for yourself is just that. Are you posting the exact same thing across different social media outlets? Consider doing this instead, PLANN your posts. Yes, that extra "n" is intentional. Plann is the app I choose to schedule my Instagram posts with. I'm able to see the layout, prewrite each post, and keep hashtags on the ready using it. When you preplan what you'd like to post on any platform rather than clicking Share and having it go to multiple apps, instead choose to rotate the information. Even if it's only two outlets you're using, start the cycle forward for one and backward for the other. Will they overlap mid-month? Yes, but only slightly. And, you could change it up and offer something completely different on that day(s). Now, that was all "for free" as my husband likes to say.
The real thought behind today's post is that of making time for yourself. Do you ever feel like you're on a hamster wheel as soon as your feet hit the ground? There's comfort in routines, but there's also boredom. When my kids were younger I especially felt guilty about leaving them with my husband or a sitter so I could do some shopping or scrapbooking alone. While some people are able to actually relax and appreciate that time, I didn't. Oftentimes I would come home sooner than expected because I was so concerned that the kids weren't behaving or they missed me or I missed them...it was an awful feeling of selfishness that I couldn't break.
Today, while making an Inspiration Board, I came across this quote, "Make yourself a priority once in a while. It's not selfish. It's necessary." It stopped my scrolling for sure. I thought about all the times I COULD have enjoyed time alone. Years of worrying about what might happen. When what I was actually doing was robbing myself of some necessary unplugged time to destress and enjoy life. I'll never be able to get that time back, but I can start allowing myself to see that time now as necessary.
For Christmas, our family makes "wish lists". We've done this for as long as I can remember with our little ones. I have kept almost all of them because it's fun to look back and see how their choices have changed and they've matured in what they ask for. It's especially helpful to have one for my husband. He's hard to shop for. Not only that, but I guess men go through socks faster than women. He asks for them every year. lol My wish list named some specific things, which I have enjoyed immensely, but it also asked for a shopping spree. My sweet friend, Somer Page, told me once about her favorite birthday gift. It was the time her husband took her out for a day to go wherever she chose and get whatever she wanted. That sounded like a fun gift, so I copied the idea.
In case you didn't know, my Mac decided it wanted to be babysat. It glitched out and I had to take it to Simply Mac last week. It is killing me to not have that giant screen to work on and to have to use my backup laptop that spews heat out its side right now. However, that forced us to make a trip to Tyler. My husband and I enjoyed the drive. My mind was dreaming of a sapphire blue dress that I have seen online. It's a vintage style flare. I was hoping that I would find it at Loft, but they didn't have anything similar. I went to Talbots and I shopped my heart out. They didn't have the dress either though.
Lucky me had just done a week-long Get Style Confidence training with Hilde Fossen on Facebook. She is a style queen! Do you remember the show "What Not to Wear"? Hilde needs her own show, but hers would be more positive. She's a hoot. Why do you need to know about Hilde? Because you may very well be doing what I did for years. I tried to hide my waist and dress kind of boring. I had no style sense. After learning what style confidence looked like, I felt prepared to tackle the dressing room with my new found knowledge!
The staff at Talbots was fantastic! They were extremely helpful and were honest about the way things fit. One top and skirt I tried on looked really good, but when I looked in the mirror I remembered a suggestion Hilde gave, so I grabbed a belt and a chunky necklace. When I put it all together, I felt cute. Cute! When you look in magazines and the models have on the right shoes and a fantastic clutch, that's how I imagined myself. I had confidence and I was ready to use it.
My style capsule was started that night. The image you see is of my new navy top and flowery chunky necklace. I'm saving the rest of the goods for my own branding session. I'll be so well put together that I know you'll want to take a look into the Get Style Confidence course yourself. If you do decide to head over to her page, be sure to tell her I sent you.
What do you think? Is this necklace a winner?
Blessings,
Zoe
