It's definitely good to know what something is to know if it's something that you need. Before I get into the explanation, think with me. Who do you follow on social media? Probably your family and friends, no doubt. But, who else? The boutique you like to shop at? The restaurant you frequent? The celebrities you talk about? It's this last group that we're going to shed some light on in this post.
While it may be crazy to be followed around by the paparazzi, celebrities deal with that on a regular basis. We've all seen the images of them walking their children in a stroller while they're wearing shades, hat pulled down, jacket draped around their waist. Nothing wrong with that, but there are some things we don't want plastered on magazine covers. However, think about the images you see where they are dressed to the nines, their hair looks fantastic and those shoes are to die for. Those are the images you think of when someone mentions their names.
"How does that have any bearing on Brand Photography?" you ask. Enter me. When people search for you, you the business professional, you the entrepreneur, you the small business owner, what do they see? Do they see you, your face, your mojo? That's what Personal Brand Photography is!
I get a little excited when I think about it, honestly. Maybe because I get it. Maybe because I can not wait for you to get it. Social media has such a huge impact on people's perception these days. We all search for things online. Even after a friend refers us to a new place to eat, a boutique to shop at, or a local provider, the internet let's our fingers do the walking to find out more about them. We take in what we see and we make a decision about them based on those images they've shared.
Ideally, you choose to visit, eat, or shop there because you liked what you saw. Now imagine that You are that boutique owner, that restaurant owner, that local provider. What images are you sharing online? What face are people seeing when they look you up?
Here's the big reveal. Your social networking is your link to connecting your personal and business personas. Your website should be cohesive with your online presence socially. By definition, social is "relating to society." How do you relate? (Has the lightbulb come on yet?) Having images of you doing things that relate to your ideal clients is a sure fire way to help encourage them to connect with you.
I know I enjoy being around people who have similar interests. It's what we talk about. That's what we do when we get together. This same mindset is how Personal Branding Photography actually works. When you have images that show you doing what you do, that you are (fill in the adjectives), and how you live your life outside of work - that's how you relate to them, through those stories.
Before I ever book a Personal Branding Session, I first have a consultation with my client to find out what stories would best relate to their ideal client. It's a one on one time where we dive deep into who you are and what you do.
Once we've narrowed down the ideal image ideas, we'll talk wardrobe styling, location, and details. This can include going out of town, out of state, or the country if for instance, Italy is where you gain inspiration from.
Don't be running to the caboose when your competitors are already in the dining carts with this. Reach out to me here and let's talk about how we can make your brand showcase You.
